Yuki Abe Hibi-e Brooch, Bow-shaped Stripe

These are works by Yuuki Abe, a ceramist who creates pottery in Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture.

Ms. Abe values "the interesting shapes, textures, and patterns that the clay itself creates." Her main works include the "Tetsue" series, where patterns are drawn with iron-containing pigments, and the "Hie" series, where patterns are created by cracks in white slip.

Having previously worked in architecture, many of her pieces feature very modern designs, and she is particular about creating textures that evoke the natural feel unique to ceramics.
