Characteristics and Care of Vessels

This guide will help you enjoy the pieces you selected at Mahoro for a long time.

Each piece, created one by one by the artist, has its own unique characteristics based on its materials and techniques.
We hope you enjoy nurturing its rich expression in your daily life.

Pottery & Porcelain

Initial Use and Sealing

・Before initial use, wash lightly with detergent.
・For pottery, "sealing" by boiling in rice water or with starch before initial use can help prevent stains and discoloration. Porcelain and some coated pieces do not require sealing.

To Prevent Stains and Discoloration

・When serving oily or dark-colored liquids in unglazed or slipware pieces, immerse them in water or lukewarm water once to allow them to absorb moisture before use, which will make them less prone to staining.
・Please enjoy the beauty of handcrafted pieces as they become more familiar and change with use over time.

Microwave, Dishwasher, Oven

・Porcelain and semi-porcelain are microwave-safe. Pottery, excluding those with gold/silver accents or special glazes, can be warmed in the microwave.
・Avoid using in ovens, dishwashers, or over direct heat (except for heat-resistant pieces). Please check the details on each product page.

Wood & Lacquer

・Wash as soon as possible after use, wipe dry with a cloth, then air dry.
・Do not leave submerged in water for extended periods, as this can cause stains and mold.
・For caring for raw wood or solid wood pieces, walnut oil or linseed oil is recommended.
・Not suitable for microwave or dishwasher use. Also, avoid stacking with pottery as it may cause scratches.

Glass

・These are not heat-resistant glass, so please refrain from using them with hot liquids.
・Not suitable for microwave, dishwasher, or oven use.

Notes and Information

Since each item we handle is handmade, even identical products may vary slightly in size, texture, and weight.
While we strive to make product photos accurately convey the real item's impression, actual colors may differ slightly due to shooting conditions and monitor display.
Please enjoy the individual differences inherent in handcrafted work and the unique textures created by each artist's ingenuity.
