These are works by Tomoko Iwata, who creates pottery in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture.
Most of Ms. Iwata's works are created using the hand-building technique (a method of shaping by stacking coiled clay), making each piece unique.
Her product lineup consists of three types: "Tanka," which achieves a matte, metallic black color through repeated firing; "Sabikekesho," which features designs made with slip; and "Haiyu," which uses natural plant ash to create a beautiful, unique green glaze.
Ms. Iwata previously painted. She reportedly transitioned to pottery as her interest in clay grew from painting.
The forms of her works, conceived with attention to every detail, and her pursuit of the texture of clay and glaze result in truly unparalleled creations.
