Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly bring out the characteristics of the clay.
The beauty of modern forms coexists with a rugged, untamed expression.
The appeal of Ohashi's work lies in this coexistence.

Ohashi uses both a wood-fired kiln, which is fired only a few times a year, and an oil-fired kiln, which is used daily.
He creates his works by moving back and forth between processes, such as using the ash from the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and then firing it in the oil-fired kiln.

This time, he is also attempting to re-fire works that were initially fired in the oil-fired kiln, in the wood-fired kiln.
Each individual piece, having circulated through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once again.

The powerful force that evokes the energy of nature, and a quiet gaze that confronts the materials and processes.
We hope you can experience the current state of Mutsumi Ohashi's work.
