Mutsumi Ohashi, who has a studio in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, creates works that strongly draw out the nature of the clay.
The rough expression and the beauty of modern forms.
The coexistence of these two is where Ohashi's charm lies.
Ohashi uses both a wood-fired kiln, which he fires only a few times a year, and a kerosene kiln, which he uses daily.
He creates his works by moving back and forth between processes, such as using the ash produced in the wood-fired kiln as ash glaze and then firing it in the kerosene kiln.
This time, he is also attempting to re-fire works that were fired in a kerosene kiln in a wood-fired kiln.
Each work, having circulated through the elements of earth, fire, and ash, returns to the flames once again.
The power that makes you feel the energy of nature, and the quiet gaze that confronts the materials and processes.
We hope you can feel the current state of Mutsumi Ohashi.
