Glass, freed by its own weight, returns to the form it inherently desires.

Yoji Matsuoka, who has been working with blown glass for over 30 years, has arrived at the "Mass" form, which involves letting go of intention and quietly following the will of the material.

The luxurious, thick texture is not merely for practical use.
When the glass has sufficient mass, heat is retained for a long time, creating "free space" where the glass itself transforms into its natural shape in accordance with gravity.

"Rather than imposing my own design, I watch over the shape that the glass wants to become."
In Matsuoka's vessels, the organic undulations of the moment when the glass was flowing like syrup are preserved.

Clear glass and nostalgic amber glass, created from a unique blend, overlap in layers, and the light that collects in the thick rim resembles clear spring water.
If you pour water into the vessel, the boundary with the glass subtly disappears, and a sacred "mass of water" that stands independently in space emerges.

It is by no means an "artwork" that imposes tension, but rather a generous and warm mass that is a delight to behold on the everyday dining table.
The strength and beauty of pure matter that emerge when intention is released. Please experience this "mass of light" that casts a quiet gravity into your daily life.

These are works by Youji Matsuoka, who creates from his blown glass studio in Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

Many of Matsuoka's vessels feature gentle, rounded designs, with some even titled "Marui" (round). In addition to his series of slightly amber-tinted clear glass, he also has a new series of colored glass. With appropriate thickness, they fit comfortably in the hand and are suitable for daily use.

When the transparent, rounded glass captures light, it creates a warm spot in the space. We hope you will experience the warmth imbued in Matsuoka's glass and find tranquility in your everyday life.
