Glass artist Kanako Minato creates her works in Akita Prefecture.

She uses a technique called "pâte de verre," where glass powder and fragments are packed into a mold made from a clay prototype and then fired in an electric kiln.

This is a very labor-intensive and time-consuming method, as each glass piece is removed by breaking the plaster mold one by one.

Unlike other glass techniques, pâte de verre offers unique appeal with air bubbles trapped between layers of fine glass particles, delicate gradations achieved with colored glass, and a substantial, solid appearance.
