Glass artist Kanako Minato creates her work in Akita Prefecture.
She uses a technique called "pate de verre," which involves packing glass powder and fragments into a mold created from a clay prototype and then firing it in an electric kiln.
This is a very labor-intensive and time-consuming method, as each glass piece is removed by breaking the plaster mold one by one.
Unlike other glass techniques, pate de verre offers unique appeal with bubbles that form between the layers of fine glass particles, delicate gradations achieved with colored glass, and a substantial, solid appearance.
