This is a work by Minoru Haga, who creates pottery in Sera Town, Hiroshima Prefecture.

Mr. Haga studied Mino ware in Gifu, a renowned pottery region, and then worked as a potter while employed at an automobile factory. To dedicate himself to his creative pursuits, he opened a studio in Sera Town in 2010, close to his hometown of Fuchu City.
His works simultaneously embody two contrasting impressions: a dynamic, inorganic feel that evokes the beauty and harshness of nature, and a slightly human softness that complements their simple forms.

The "Ume-yaki" (buried firing) technique is a unique method involving bisque firing → glazing and high-firing → then burying the pieces in split firewood and firing them again in a wood-fired kiln.
This technique has a high probability of failure, but precisely because of this, it results in pottery with complex expressions, which Mr. Haga is passionately committed to.

"Hagihaku" (peeled white) is a new endeavor using white glazes, incorporating a process of intentionally applying and then peeling off the glaze, deliberately creating a decayed texture.
The price range is accessible, and the simple color tones enhance food presentation.

"Kurogin" (black silver) is a silver technique that offers glimpses of the rough texture of the clay.
The glare is subdued, creating a work where a metallic texture harmonizes well with the black of the earth.

Mr. Haga demonstrates a profound honesty regarding the inherent irreversibility of pottery making.
What lies there is not a simple contrast of destruction and rebirth, but an attitude of confronting "irretrievability" itself.
We hope you will enjoy Mr. Haga's mastery of various techniques.

*Mr. Haga's works value serendipity, so there is significant individual variation.
The photos show pieces of roughly the same size, but the patterns and fine dimensions will differ for each, so please consider them as examples.
The "Ume-yaki" pieces have a stronger random nature than "Hagihaku." Please be aware of this in advance.
