Yoji Matsuoka Solo Exhibition “The Mass”
July 18-25, 2026

The glass, freed by its own weight, returns to its true, desired form.
Having worked with blown glass for over 30 years, Yoji Matsuoka arrived at the "Mass" form, which quietly adheres to the material's will.
The plump, luxurious thickness is not merely for practical use.
When the glass has sufficient mass, heat is retained for a longer period, creating "free space" where the glass naturally changes its shape in accordance with gravity.
Rather than controlling it through manipulation, he observes the trajectory that the material desires.
The vessels created in this way encapsulate the organic fluctuations of the moment when they flowed like molten candy.
Layers of colorless, transparent glass, with light accumulating in the thick rim, resemble clear spring water.
These are not "crafts" that impose a sense of tension, but rather generous and warm masses that are a joy to behold at the daily dinner table.
The strength and beauty of pure matter emerge when manipulation is released.
Please experience "The Mass of Light" that casts a quiet gravity into everyday life at the exhibition.
